Hello again Tim, I am sorry if I appear to be harassing you to divulge more about the much anticipated addition of the e-ILS to SD.

Can you please keep us updated regularly about how things are progressing with this addition?

I feel this would be an important development safety feature in SD and one that warrants a celebration. This feature would be an asset to all UK and European flyers, particularly. More over, It would render acquiring SD as an extremely economic way of enhancing flight safety, efficiency and accuracy.

I've just noticed a new version of Skydemon has been released (1.4.4). I'll be airbourne tomorrow and wondered if the ILS display has been incorporated into this version?

I have just come back from a trip to try the new version. Alas no ILS. I note Tim is keeping a low profile these days. Very busy organising final ILS touch-ups for Christmas?

Well, we successfully flew a "pretend" ILS approach to a farm strip using a prototype instrument in SkyDemon yesterday which was helpful. It's just a matter now of fine-tuning it and getting the details right, which is most of the work really. I'll post here again when I have something to show.

Just out of interest how well did it perform. Where I fly from the "international" ILS equipped regional airport where my students shoot there ILS approaches as part of there IMC training charge 17 quid. The other nearby so called internatioal airport charge 12 but a minimum invoice charge of 40 quid so lets not do there.

So how realistic was it? Would I for example be able to get my IMC student to practice ILS approaches using Skydemon into my home field and once they have got of flying the of it then switch to the real thing for vectoring and pre exam polish.

I don't know Mr Bathman. I can just feel a Christmas surprise in coming our way. Perhaps an e-ILS, e-DME together with a Virtual Approach and Landing as well (Tim:... Hint...Hint of what's coming). Or am I just dreaming. SD Team appears is just too quiet for comfort these days.

Sorry, my quietness over the last 10 days or so has been because I've been moving house, nothing to do with SkyDemon. Feature planning for 1.5 is just about complete but I'm afraid I don't really have any news about the proposed ILS feature just yet.

I'll tell you all how it currently stands, though.

The SkyDemon ILS instrument is just about done; it's a beautiful HSI-style instrument that switches to GPS-based ILS automatically when on final approach, with the usual crosshairs. It's been on a couple of test flights into farm strips (one partially in cloud) and performed very well indeed. However - and this is a big however - we are by no means certain that this prototype functionality will make it into SkyDemon.

I meant to link to this earlier, but please join in the discussion of the technical merits (and potential legal/liability ramifications) over at the Flyer forums. I wanted to expand the discussion of the feature to a non-SkyDemon audience.

I knew it...I just knew it. However, and a big big however. I want it!

PS Did the e-DME work too?!

Yes, the e-DME part is really the most trivial thing about it. It's just a measurement from your current GPS position to the position of the runway threshold.

Well done Tim...Congratulations. Please count me in.

You can add as many disclaimers in the product to protect SD Team and Divelements interests.

However, this is a brilliant safety feature that I am sure many of us would be keen to see included and to try as soon as possible. It is common knowledge that "Virtual Approach and Landing" functions are within other products already.

I have just gone through the opinions in the Flyer. The general feeling appears to be positive and for progress. There is no question that, if SD won't do it, others most certainly have and will continue to develop it. SD could elect to wait and see the outcome of a full blown introduction of this facility into the market. By that time SD would either have a fierce competition by fully mature comprehensive alternative products or be totally squeezed out.

In a nut shell most accidents occur as a result of errors of judgment. A computer or a programme as such do not cause accidents all by themselves. We can make them though, just the same way as I can render my car (legal) and driving license (legal), lethal.
